Controversy is nothing new in the fashion world, especially in commercials. However, it seems that Yves Saint Laurent has crossed the line this time with his new campaign. A day before International Women's Day, the images of her new promotion appeared on the streets of Paris, and people are not happy. The photographs show women in very provocative positions, which people have been calling sexists and misogynists, accusing them of launching a message that denigrates the female figure.
Consumers are expressing their anger via Twitter with the hashtag #YSLRetireTaPubDegradante (#YSLRetiraTuPublicidadDenigrante).
A French anti-sexist group has even been filling the sticker ads covering the images and tweeting their anger at the brand.
"This is not a woman, this is a victim of sexual harassment," they write.
There has been so much anger that even the director of the French organization Autorité de Régulation Professionelle de la Publicité (Professional Advertising Regulatory Authority), Stéphane Martin, has said that the campaign “seriously violates” the advertising rules related to the "respect for decency, dignity and those that prohibit submission, violence or dependency, including also the use of stereotypes".
And what do you think? Do you think the campaign degrades women? Share your thoughts in the comments.
