Todd Kohlhepp, the real estate agent who last year kept a woman chained inside a container in South Carolina, now faces 14 charges for the murders of seven people. The alleged serial killer also faces charges of kidnapping, use of a firearm, kidnapping and rape, a grand jury found this week.

The incredible series of crimes Kohlhepp is charged with might not have been discovered if Kala Brown, 30, had not been rescued in November by investigators seeking her whereabouts and that of her boyfriend, Charlie Carver. They followed a lead to inhospitable terrain owned by the accused where Brown was kidnapped.

Hearing investigators in the area, Brown began making noise inside the container where he was tied with a chain around his neck for more than two months. During her rescue, the woman told police that there were other bodies buried in that area. And indeed, they discovered the body of her boyfriend and those of Johnny and Megan Coxie, 25 and 29 years old, who had been reported missing since December 2015.

As reported by People, court documents indicate that the defendant used the container in which he kept Brown (below these lines) to also lock up Coxie almost a year earlier. After her husband was shot to death, Kohlhepp put Coxie in chains by her wrists and ankles for six days until he killed her on Christmas Day 2015.

According to authorities, Kohlhepp, 45, confessed to also killing Beverly Guy, Brian Lucas, Scott Ponder and Chris Sherbert in 2003 inside the Superbike Motorsports store in South Carolina.

Brown filed a civil lawsuit against his kidnapper in December asking for monetary compensation for the emotional and physical agony to which he was subjected. Despite all the suffering, the 30-year-old woman maintains an attitude of integrity towards life. In an interview on the show Dr. Phil said, "No matter what she did to me, she didn't break me."
