When everything pointed out that the gala would be remembered for the claims in favor of immigrants by Gael García Bernal or the emotional speech of Viola Davis when receiving the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, at the last minute the legendary actors Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway took all the glory, although they were not to blame.
In the style of Steve Harvey, at the Miss Universe gala two installments ago, Beatty and Dunaway reviewed the films nominated by the Academy of Art and Cinematographic Sciences, Beatty opened the envelope and had to look repeatedly at the winner's name, which made her partner think she was joking and then it was she who announced that La La Land was the winning film.
After the initial rejoicing and taking the stage for the award, one of the producers of the movie starring Ryan Gosling noticed the mistake. "It is not a joke, Moonlight is the winner."
According to People magazine, someone behind the scenes realized the mistake shortly before, and someone even claimed that Beatty was carrying the wrong envelope.
No one seemed to believe what was happening until he showed the card with the name of the winning film: Moonlight.
The confusion even affected the Academy Twitter page, which tweeted the wrong winner, and then corrected it.
Beatty asked to be able to explain himself, and assured that when he opened the envelope he had read " Emma Stone, La La Land", and that was why he had doubted so much. And the truth is that they gave her the envelope for the Best Actress category, an award that Stone had taken just before.
Kimmel wanted to take iron out of the matter, assuring that this "is just an awards ceremony", and that he was sure that the gala would go to waste under his leadership. "It's my fault".
The truth is that everyone will remember the 89th edition as the first in which someone made a mistake when awarding the Best Film award.
