What started as a sweet dream turned into a real nightmare for a woman who, while sleeping, began to feel a tingling sensation in her nose that hours later would take her to a hospital in India. There the doctors discovered the reason for her rare ailment: she had a live roach near her brain.

As reported by The New Indian Express newspaper, the woman identified as Selvi asked her son-in-law to accompany her to a clinic since it was clear that her discomfort was related to an insect. "Every time it moved, it gave me a burning sensation in my eyes," said Selvi of the cockroach. "I spent the whole night in that discomfort, sitting and waiting for dawn to go to the hospital."

After the tests, doctors found the roach inside the 42-year-old woman's head. "I was sitting at the base of the skull, between the two eyes, near the brain," said MN Shankar, head of the otorhinolaryngology department at Stanley Medical College Hospital, where she was treated.

The doctor also stated that the speed with which the cockroach was diagnosed and extracted - the process lasted about 45 minutes - was vital for the patient because if the insect had died inside her body, an infection would have occurred that would have damaged her brain..
