Although the film she stars in, The Salesman, is among the nominees for the Oscar for best foreign film, the Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti has decided to sacrifice her moment of glory to draw attention to another issue that seems more important to her: the politics of President Donald Trump towards his country.

Alidoosti is one of the last artists to speak out against the US president, who was upset by the lack of stars in his presidential inauguration and responded with a tweet to a speech by Meryl Streep at the Golden Globes.

Alidoosti's reason for boycotting this year's ceremony is the immigration restrictions the president imposed on his compatriots, part of the new administration's policy of restricting access to the United States.

“Trump's visa ban on Iranians is racist. Whether it includes a cultural event or not, I will not attend the 2017 Academy Awards in protest, said the actress through her Twitter account.

Alidoosti is considered the Natalie Portman of Iran and her protest message has received thousands of likes.

In an interview with the ABC network this week, Trump assured that his plan was not to impose a "prohibition on Muslims" regarding entry into the country, but was intended to restrict the arrival of citizens from countries with "tremendous terrorism".

In addition to Iran, this list includes Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and Sudan.
