Amid protests that new President Donald J. Trump did not select a Hispanic for his cabinet, it has been revealed that Helen Aguirre Ferré was named director of media affairs and special adviser to the president.

Until now, the veteran journalist of Nicaraguan descent held the position of director of Hispanic communication for the Republican National Committee (RNC), the executive body of the Republican Party.

The militant of the republican party was part of the transition team of the new president and according to Político.com, for some time she was quite critical of the then candidate for the presidency of the United States.

According to that publication, Ferré joined the republican party's communications team in June 2016. But before, he erased a series of negative comments he made about the then-candidate for the White House.

Aguirre Ferré even made statements on the Jorge Ramos (Univisión) program in line with his displeasure over Trump's comments during the presidential campaign.

“There is a side of Donald Trump that is anti-feminine. I'm not going to tell you that he's a misogynist… but I don't think there is something that bothers him about a woman [who is] strong and independent.”

In this role, and as "special adviser to the president," Aguirre Ferré will be part of the executive leadership team closest to the New York billionaire.

As director of media affairs, Aguirre Ferré will also join the office of future White House spokesman Sean Spicer.

The appointment of Aguirre Ferré is a ray of light for the Hispanic community that eagerly awaited the appointment of a member of the community to a prominent position in the new administration - which has not happened so far, thus breaking with the tradition established since more than two decades ago by previous presidents.
