Authorities are still searching Tuesday for an "armed and dangerous" man accused of shooting an Orlando police woman the day before.
The death of Sgt. Debra Clayton mourned the Orlando Police Department, which suffered a second casualty when an officer died in an accident while pursuing the suspect.
Authorities believe the author of the shooting is Markeith Loyd, 41, and have intensified their search by distributing photos throughout central Florida, as well as on social media.
Loyd, who was wanted in connection with the murder of a pregnant ex-girlfriend in December, shot the sergeant near a Walmart store on Monday morning, according to the official version of events.
Clayton reportedly arrived at Walmart in response to a call giving Lloyd's presence at the store. According to a witness, the fugitive immediately shot him at the agent when he stopped him.
Orlando, still recovering from the massacre at a gay nightclub last year, appears to have particularly felt the death of the sergeant, who was the mother of two children and had an impeccable record of 17 years of service.
For his part, the suspect has an extensive criminal history that includes 20 arrests since 1994.
