Christopher Prestipino, the man accused of murdering the Mexican model Esmeralda González, 24, has pleaded not guilty to the crime, PEOPLE confirmed. The brutal murder shocked the world. The body of the Instagram model was found inside a concrete block in the Las Vegas desert. The young woman disappeared in late May, according to police, and her remains were found outside Glendale, Nevada, on October 8.

Her hands were tied and she had tape around her mouth and neck. The body was wrapped in blankets and hidden inside a 250-gallon water tank that had been filled with cement and covered with wood.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, González works in the adult entertainment industry and lived near the Prestipino residence. The model's Facebook profile indicates that she had studied at the University of Nevada.

Christopher Prestipino, 45, was accused of killing Esmeralda with the help of his girlfriend Casandra Garrett, 39, at their Las Vegas home, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported. According to court documents, the couple allegedly tied the young model to the bed frame, strangled her and injected her with liquid to clean pools. The case remains under investigation.
