The Bolivian government declared on Tuesday that the blame for the plane crash in which 71 people died on November 28 was the fault of the Bolivian airline Lamia and the pilot, Miguel Quiroga.

"What has happened with this tragic event is the direct responsibility of the Lamia company and the pilot," the Minister of Public Works and Services, Milton Claros, said at a press conference, presenting the results of a government investigation.

The investigation also yielded information on public officials who will be penalized for non-compliance with functions. Such is the case of Celia Castedo, official of the Administration of Airports and Auxiliary Services to Bolivian Air Navigation, who authorized the flight even though it was not in optimal conditions.

Castedo had "direct responsibility because a flight cannot be authorized to fly if it has an observation," added the minister.

The airline's manager, Gustavo Vargas Gamboa, and his son, Gustavo Vargas Villegas, were detained by Bolivian authorities and are awaiting trial.

In a press conference, the Bolivian director of Air Transport, Andy Robacado, said that Lamia incurred influence peddling.

Almost all the soccer team players died in the accident and only 6 people survived.
