Shandana Durrani, an American who survived the attack on a Christmas market in Berlin, is sure that she is still alive thanks to a last-minute decision: stop to answer a text message.
When interviewed by ABC News, Durrani explained the tragedy she had to witness and how she survived.
I saw it all. It happened 20 feet from me. I was leaving the market after buying some things. I stopped responding to a text message from a friend and basically I think that's what saved me from being run over, because when I looked up this truck was going through the market, through the stalls, through the crowd and almost approaching even me”, he said.
After witnessing the most recent terrorist attack in Europe, he sought refuge with other people behind a kiosk. There they waited, according to Narro, for some moments until they felt that it was safe to leave.
Then he shared a moving message on Facebook about the experience he had had to live.
“The past 24 hours have been exhausting in many ways. I have received hatred thrown at me for being a Muslim and also a lot of love just for being human. I fear for the future of our planet. Hate breeds hatred so please stop hatred. Go and hug a friend or loved one. Kiss your pets. Tell someone you love him. Let the past be past and revive old friends, he requested.
“Life can change in an instant and then there is no going back. Thank you that you are healthy and alive because many of us do not have that luxury, he added.
Shandana is a travel and lifestyle journalist who recently moved to this German city for her job. Despite continuing to be shocked by what she has just experienced, she congratulated the German authorities for the speed with which they mobilized.
The terrorist attack on Berlin has currently added 12 dead and fifty wounded. The perpetrator has not yet been arrested, but the ISIS terror group claimed that one of its "soldiers" carried out it.
