After long days of anguish, the family of the Spanish Ignacio Echeverría confirmed on Wednesday that the young banker was one of the eight fatal victims of the London attack last Saturday.

"Ignacio did not survive the moment of the attack," his sister Ana, who had been looking for Ignacio since the day of the attack, confirmed the hope that he was among the dozens of wounded.

Ignacio, who worked at the HSBC bank headquarters in the British capital, was returning with some skating friends when they encountered the attack at the Borough Market. According to his friends, instead of fleeing, he launched himself in defense of a woman who was being stabbed by terrorists. That was the last time he was seen alive.

"He jumped off the bicycle and hit the attacker with the skateboard while two other men attacked him from behind and he was lying on the ground," said one of the friends.

His bravery earned him the nickname Skateboard Hero, as the English media called it.

While the British police received his fingerprints on Sunday, they asked for further proof of his identity, so he requested DNA samples to complete the victim's profile.

The long wait irritated the family and the Spanish authorities, who pressured the British to speed up the identification process.

“My brother Ignacio tried to stop some terrorists, and he lost his life trying to save others. Igna we love you and we will never forget you”, wrote his sister Ana on his Facebook profile. “Thanks to all of you who loved and cared for him. We know that we are not the only sad ones. We want to see and be with the body of Ignacio”.

The attack carried out by three men armed with knives and who rammed passers-by with a van claimed eight lives and left 48 wounded, according to British authorities.
