An American couple who were kidnapped four years ago in Afghanistan while on a hiking trip, appeared this week in a video imploring the US government to help them.

American Caitlan Coleman and Canadian Joshua Boyle were kidnapped in 2102 and have had two children in captivity. "We have waited since 2012 for someone to understand our problems," Coleman said in the 4-minute video. "My children have seen how their mother was dishonored."

For his part, Boyle declared that they are living a Kafkaesque nightmare that has no end. "It has been more than four years, so I beg you, please hurry up."

It was the Afghan group Haqqani who revealed the video where the couple pleads that the governments of the United States and Canada work so that they can be released.

Coleman was pregnant when they were kidnapped by the insurgent group demanding the release of three of its members imprisoned in Afghanistan.

According to information from the BBC, at the moment there is no immediate reaction from the United States Department of State. Only Canada Department of World Affairs spokesman Michael O'Shaughnessy said they are "deeply concerned" about the couple and called for their unconditional release.
