Don Omar and Olga Tañón have collected supplies for the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, but part of the merchandise has not yet been delivered to them at the Rafael Hernández de Aguadilla airport. This, because allegedly the coordinator of charter flights from Miami, issued fraudulent checks to the company in charge of distributing the cargo on the island, the Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora indicates.
Both artists had reported through their social networks that the items had been stolen at the Aguadilla airport, because - at the time - they apparently did not know what was happening.
Primera Hora states that Omar Marrero, director of the Ports Authority confirmed that there is a criminal investigation into the cargo sent to San Juan by both artists because the person in charge of making the payment to the company that would deliver the donations at the airport did so with fraudulent checks. “When the Solar Cargo freighter went to write the checks against the banking institution, it is detected that those used manager's checks are fraudulent. Then, they contact WASCO (Western Aviation Service Corp.) to stop the dispatch [of the merchandise], Marrero told the newspaper.
What is the role of WASCO? They are the company that "receive, lower the load and keep it in warehouses until customers go to pick it up," said Marrero. Primera Hora indicates that the payment of hundreds of thousands of dollars in fraudulent checks is supposedly being investigated by the CIC (Corps of Criminal Investigations) of Aguadilla and the FBI.
Who was the person who wrote the checks? The name of the individual who paid or used the fraudulent checks has not yet been released by the authorities. This person coordinated five aid trips, including those of Olga Tañón and Don Omar. Most of the merchandise had already been delivered before they became aware of the fraud. However, Primera Hora indicates that Marrero explained that part of the aid coordinated by Don Omar, and other artists, are "held" at the airport until the investigation is completed or the money is received to lift the load.
