A 7-year-old boy from a community near Austin, Texas, has caused a stir on the Internet after photos and videos of his hot chocolate stand went viral.
And it is not about being an everyday child entrepreneur, little Benton Stevens has generated controversy since he is raising money to help finance President Trump's border wall.
The boy's mother, Jennifer Stevens, says Benton was motivated to raise funds after listening to Trump's State of the Union address. The funds, specifically, would go to help finance the controversial wall.
"He wanted to know about the wall, so we explained what it was about and he said, 'I want to raise money for the wall,'" he told the local KXAN news station in Austin, Texas.
Benton's parents are members of the Republican National Convention, and are willing to share their political position with their children, according to various media reports.
"People think they brainwashed him," he told KXAN. "Well, of course, he supports Trump because we do, and hears how we speak and this and that. Call that brainwashing, but I call it nurturing, because we instill our values in it.”
Like any child who sells lemonade to raise money for his school, everything became a family business. Benton was helped by his older brothers to make the banners, while his mom was the one who made the chocolate for the customers.
The Benton booth lasted less than they expected after being installed in the Steiner Ranch Mall. After receiving complaints from area residents and the owner of the establishment, Benton's father decided to close after being open for only an hour. Benton raised $ 231. Still, it seems that Benton has many supporters. Including his profit on sales and additional donations to his cause through Venmo, Benton has raised around $ 1,400.
Some people openly expressed that parents "used" their child to make a political statement. Jennifer alleges that someone even called him "little Hitler."
The Benton case has raised controversy on social media. What do you think?
