Stephanie del Valle took the crown of the Miss World 2016 pageant during the ceremony that took place last Sunday at the MGM National Harbor, in Washington DC
The 19-year-old, originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, stood out among the 116 candidates for her beauty and sweetness.
The five finalists were Miss Philippines, Miss Indonesia, Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Kenya, and Miss Puerto Rico.
It should be noted that Del Valle is the second Miss from Puerto Rico to reach the Miss World title. The first Puerto Rican to win the contest was Wilnelia Merced Forsyth in 1975.
"I feel happy. We finally got the crown, "said former Miss World to El Nuevo Día. "I'm glad Stephanie is going to be a wonderful queen. It was the most beautiful of all and that's what it's about. It has sweetness [and] it is magnificent.”
Puerto Rican singer Chayanne also expressed his emotion through social networks.
“Stephanie, you are a pride for us Puerto Ricans. Work and dedication pay off. Congratulations! The interpreter of “Humans to Mars” tweeted this Monday.
