Tiago da Rocha Vieira, a player for Atlético Chapecoense do Brasil, learned that he would become a father before boarding the plane that crashed with his teammates near Medellín on Monday night.

Better known as Tiaguinho, he received the news of his wife's pregnancy thanks to a plan organized by her and her colleagues who surprised him at the hotel where they were staying.

The emotional moment was recorded in a video that has gone viral after the death of Tiaguinho and his companions. The athlete's wife sent him a letter with his companions, in which he informed them that they would be parents. Tiaguinho reading it jumps with emotion.

The footballer died with 75 people when the plane they were traveling in crashed near Medellín. The apparent cause of the accident is said to have been an electrical failure caused by a lack of fuel.

In a recording broadcast in some Colombian media, the pilot of the plane carrying the players and journalists is heard when he tells the control tower that the plane must land urgently due to lack of gasoline.

So far, authorities continue to search for the black boxes to determine the cause of the incident. Five were the survivors: Alan Rushel and Jackson Follmann, the journalist Rafael Henzel, the stewardess Ximena Suárez, and the technician Erwin Turimi.
