8-year-old Girl Dies After Being Kidnapped And Sexually Assaulted

A horrible tragedy the day before Thanksgiving has rocked the small town of Olney in southern Illinois.

Sabrina Stauffenberg, an 8-year-old girl, was kidnapped from the porch where she was waiting for a bus to go to church. The little girl was found dead in a vinegar factory near the site where she disappeared.

As reported by the Belleville News-Democrat on Sunday, a man named Glen Ramey, 53, was arrested in connection with the crime and taken into custody of the authorities around 2:20 am to face charges of predatory sexual assault and homicide in first grade.

“I was standing on the porch, waiting for the bus to go to church. She was talking to her grandmother on the phone at the time,”said Denise Haley, a family friend who spoke to the local newspaper News-Democrat. "She was telling her grandmother that the church bus had not arrived."

According to the newspaper, the grandmother hung up the phone and called the church to see why the bus was late. When she called her granddaughter again, there was no answer.

The grandmother also revealed a chilling detail: the crime suspect, who also sexually abused the minor, was dating a relative of the girl.

No bond has yet been set for the subject, and his name is reportedly not on the Illinois state's sexual predator lists.

Now, the family has started a fundraising campaign to help the minor's family with the funeral expenses.

"Last night, our little girl was taken from us too soon," said himself in the message posted on the GoFundme.com page, a website asking for financial help for various initiatives. "We as a community want to be with them in their pain and seek justice at the same time."
