Emilio and Gloria Estefan will provide free food starting this Thursday to the heroes without capes who are helping to fight the coronavirus.
Through their company Estefan Kitchen, the couple will provide meals to health personnel, first aid and other essential jobs in different locations in Miami for a month.
“It is easy for us to be able to write a check and to be able to help as we have done before. I have had so much respect for the doctors, for the people in the police, for so many people who have done a job right now, that I want to help, Emilio told People en Español.
"Of course the restaurant is closed, but if we can offer this [food] service, help these people who are sorely lacking, not only do you have to give one meal a day, they are delivered at lunchtime, the hour of food and sometimes at 12 at night because the police ask for food sometimes at 12 at night, "he added.
Over the next 30 days, Estefan Kitchen will prepare and deliver the food to various health centers in the city of Miami, as well as to the police department and the fire department, in order to help with hot and healthy meals.
"The message is not the plate of food, but the message of unity, the message of gratitude to these people who are risking their lives for so many people at this time from me and Gloria and the employees who wanted to do it," he said..
This initiative also allows employees of the couple's company to keep their jobs.
"We were able to keep employees doing something positive and giving a message of thanks only," said Emilio.
Emilio confessed that this is not a time to think about making music or concerts, but to act to help those who are having work to get ahead.
“This is not a time to sing, nobody wants to be singing, doing concerts. What you really have to do is be able to help, especially the Latino community that is going to have a lot of work. There are children right now who do not have computers to receive their classes at home. So many people are still unemployed. When you go to bed at night and your head starts to turn [you wonder] what can I do? "He said.
"At least I feel a little better that I can do something minimal, it is nothing compared to what people are doing but we have done it with a lot of faith in God and sending the message of gratitude," he added.
The famous product assured that both he and his wife have followed the instructions of the authorities, staying away from his family at home and taking care of his health.
“We haven't seen the children in a long time, my grandson, but every day we are [for] Facetime playing with him. Life changes sometimes, at least we are healthy, we are struggling and trying to keep going,”he said. “From this we are going to learn a lot, to be better human beings, to leave so much hate resentment that sometimes people have without any need. Let a new generation know that life can change you in a moment.”
