Enrique Acevedo promised his followers on Instagram that he would make a great announcement and started 2020 on the right foot with a fascinating new job project. The Mexican Univision presenter spoke exclusively with People en Español about his new role as the first Latino correspondent for the renowned English-language news brand 60 Minutes. Of course, he will continue in his role as co-presenter of the evening edition of the Univisión Newscast while facing this new challenge in English.

“I'm going to start a project with 60 Minutes, the most watched and longest-running news show on television in the United States, has been on the air for 52 seasons. In those 52 seasons it is the first time that they will have a Latino correspondent,”says Acevedo. “The project I'm going to be involved in has to do with launching a new platform called QuiBi that will be launched by former Disney CEO and DreamWorks founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, someone well respected in the media industry. He launched this QuiBi platform in April 2020, which is a kind of streaming service like Disney Plus or Netflix, but only for mobile devices, for cell phones and tablets,”he adds. QuiBi already has partnerships with Steven Spielberg, with Guillermo Del Toro, with the BBC and for the first time 60 Minutes has considered launching a digital project thinking of the new generation of audience that is not going to television and with which 60 Minutes also wants to connect. They have agreed with Jeffrey Katzenberg that QuiBi is the place where this new project called 60 In 6 will exist, with which I will be directly involved”.

The journalist adds that they will be stories like those of 60 Minutes, only in shorter segments, of about 6 minutes "with themes designed for an audience that lives on these devices but with the same narrative that has made 60 Minutes famous", with the Same team of editors and cameramen, but now adding a new team of correspondents that includes Acevedo. "Univisión was key to support me because it is a project that adds to what I have as my main responsibility, which is the newscast of the night at Univisión," says the renowned 41-year-old communicator.

"You have to manage the schedule very well," he admits about this work adventure that begins in April with the launch of 60 in 6. "I appreciate that my wife Florentina [Romo] and the children are giving me a chance," says Emilio's father, 2 years old, and Patricio, three months old. "Without the support of the family and Univision, I couldn't take these opportunities."

Acevedo hopes that his children when they grow up will take pride in achievements like this in their careers. "I hope to teach my children by example," he concludes. “When I am at home I take them to school and play with them, and I try to be there on the pediatrician's shifts, but it is good that they also see that their dad is working and traveling to cover stories and topics that may suit them. to affect them more than me, like gun control or climate change. " Congratulations Enrique!
