Why Did Ari Behn, The Princess's Ex-husband, Commit Suicide?

This week a tragedy shook the world on Christmas Day: the news of a heartbreaking suicide in the bosom of royalty. The writer and painter Ari Behn, ex-husband of Princess Marta Luisa of Norway, took his own life and left three daughters and teenagers fatherless.

Although Christmas is the most endearing date of the year, it is also the hardest for people who are sad or alone. In the case of the son-in-law of the Norwegian kings , the writer suffered from a chronic depression that haunted him throughout his life.

The fact that this fateful event happened at Christmas, necessarily reminds us of the trauma of his childhood that was unleashed on Christmas Eve when little Ari was only ten years old.

In an interview Ari Behn gave to Vanity Fair, he himself told how his parents, both teachers, told him that they were going to divorce: “ My mother married her best friend. My father, in turn, married the ex-wife of that man. They literally did a couple swap. And they communicated their decision to us on Christmas Eve, because they considered that, since we were all together, it was a good time.”

If this news breaks the heart of any child, we imagine the hard blow that this bomb caused in the childhood of this very sensitive child, who would later become a well-known multifaceted artist.

In another television interview, Ari Behn delved a little deeper into that Christmas event, while talking about his own divorce from Princess Marta Luisa of Norway: “I had to take care of my brothers, since my father disappeared. It is a situation that I would never have wanted my daughters to experience, but it is something that happens to many people”, he tried to console himself.

Ari Behn's funeral will be held at Oslo Cathedral on January 3 at one in the afternoon. A painful moment for the Norwegians, who have been shocked by this terrible event.
