At 3,100 meters above sea level, in the Cacique lagoon in Guatavita, Colombia, our fashion and beauty expert Kika Rocha shares the secrets of the traditional medicinal plants of this area such as frailejón, coca or sabanero rubber. See what these natural treasures can do for your skin and your well-being.

"Coca is not cocaine, just as grapes are not wine," says the expert on these plants and guide to the Paula lagoon, Andrea Ballen, about one of the biggest confusion that many have about this typical Colombian plant.

The coca leaf is medicinal and has more than 400 properties. For example for altitude sickness, which is prevented with a coca tea that also helps digestion and the immune system.

In addition to coca, a lot of wild plants with many properties grow in the area, such as wild rosemary, ideal for hair treatments, especially to stimulate growth and prevent falling, or the Indian acacia, with which you can prepare an infusion that will help you treat problems such as constipation or inflamed colon.

"It is prepared as an infusion, leaving some leaves resting in hot water for a few minutes," explains the expert. "You have to be careful with its consumption and not take too much for its purifying properties."
