Meet Beatriz Martínez and Paulina Anchia, a duo of Puerto Rican mother and daughter who collaborate in the fight against human trafficking through Beamina, a bag firm with an ideal design and a lot of heart created by an 11-year-old girl with a great sense of creativity and eager to help others. Don't miss its story.

What is the philosophy of your brand?

Beamina is a brand with purpose. Our goal is to inspire each soul to achieve their dreams. [In addition] to have a commitment to defend human rights. Each beamina wallet includes a message of overcoming that is sacred to the soul.

How did the idea of creating this brand arise with your daughter being so young?

The idea was born out of Paulina's interest and skill. Her perseverance and insistence on creating a portfolio line was stronger than any passing dream. Her maturity and her empathy with others at such a young age always surprised me, […] the genuine love of wanting to help others… There was no doubt that I would support her. There were no coincidences: I lost my job in 2015 and my daughter made me a book that said "Mom, those rays you see are stars that are falling and you are not seeing them." It continued like this until one day she said to me "Mommy, why others can and we can't?". Your courage and determination were what made me decide to support this project.

In addition to caring about design, it was clear to them that they wanted to help others through these accessories, but how did they decide for the cause to support the fight against human trafficking and natural disasters?

It was imperative for us that if we created a brand it had to have a purpose. Defending and educating about human rights has always been important to us as a family. We have a mission with the prevention of Human Trafficking in the world. We are advocates of ending hostile environments. We wish to promote a world of peace, love and respect. And we decided to continue working with the Ricky Martin Foundation.

Why did you decide to produce the bags in Colombia?

I wanted our production to be done in Latin America and not in Asia where there is less control. In this way we support Latin Americans and give them the opportunity to continue demonstrating to the world our quality and potential for job development. We make sure that our suppliers have clean and sustainable processes. We have also created a line in fabric and other fabrics to reduce the use of [animal] fur. This has been a decision thought about the balance between fashion and sustainability. Also most of the hands that make the bags are women who are heads of the family. In this way we are creating a brand with more and more sustainable purpose throughout the entire production chain.

Since you started beamina, what has been the biggest challenge you have faced? And the greatest satisfaction?

Creating a zero brand is not an easy thing, it requires commitment, courage and continuity so that the client can recognize you. The greatest satisfaction is to be able to create a brand with purpose with my daughter. The connection of mother and daughter is a very special one and in this team age does not make itself felt.
