For those who still don't know her, at 24 years old, this American actress with Brazilian parents made her leap to fame in 2016 thanks to her starring role in the teen mystery series Riverdale (The CW), in which she plays Veronica. Lodge, a young Latina from a wealthy family come unless you have to start from scratch in a new city. Before the upcoming season of the hit fiction series premieres and Coyote Lake, her first thriller, we spoke to Camila Mendes about style, the importance of caring for self-esteem, and, of course, her best beauty secrets.

How do you feel about representing a Latina in Hollywood?

I am proud and excited that [Latinos] are finally represented and have important roles and a story to tell.

Your parents are from Brazil, when do you feel most connected to your roots?

When I'm natural, when I put on the basics and essentials. Latina women really know how to take care of themselves and strive to do so. I think it is about wanting to be healthy and taking care of your skin and hair, rather than adding and adding [products and routines], and ending up happening.

In between filming and red carpet, what beauty tips or advice have you received from the professionals you have worked with?

I have discovered a product that my co-star recommended to me that I am using a lot. Well, two products that your facialist recommended. It is the Triple Berry Peel and the Rapid Response Detox Mask by Renée Rouleau. I use them together. They are super useful when I travel a lot because because of my work I am now traveling more than in my entire life.

As for look changes, are there any that you regret?

Once I made an ombré type gradient that I regret. It was when [the fashion of the] ombré had just started and I went to an ordinary hairdresser. It was very dark and suddenly changed to an orange blonde. I liked it a lot at first because of how different it was and because it gave me light on my face, but looking back [I admit that] it didn't suit me.

How do you take care of your hair?

My hair is always shiny because I take a shine bath every month that highlights that light and that blue-black tone. I use hairdryers and irons a lot at work so when I'm free I avoid them and let them rest. […] I also use John Frieda's Day 2 Revival Wave Refresh Spray to refresh my hair and maintain my hairstyle when I'm shooting.

What is your Achilles heel when it comes to beauty and makeup?

I'm definitely not good at contouring. But I don't really like contouring, so I have no problem with that. I don't think I have to get over it.

What is your best advice for the young women who follow you?

Stop them from editing their photos. If you don't like a photo of yourself, don't post it. But we have to be responsible and spread our image that fits what we really are. I think the more you change your appearance in photos the more you contribute to that idea that there is something wrong with your normal appearance.

What does beauty mean to you?

Take care of yourself and accept what you like about yourself. People focus too much on what they don't like and beauty isn't about changing that, it's about accentuating what you love.
