How did you decide to go from being a stylist to also creating your own brand of hair products?
I had spent a lot of time working with other product lines as art director and ambassador but none of them gave me the results I was looking for. One day I talked to my mentor and he suggested the idea of launching my own line. The biggest challenge was the process of selecting the ingredients I wanted to use, since I was interested in incorporating herbs and fragrances that I had been exposed to in Mexico when I was a child, but also establishing the look that will represent a clean, botanical and made in Los Angeles, CA.
What has been your main inspiration for the relaunch of your line?
The architecture, the classic and clean lines, the minimalist and simple have always caught my attention. So the relaunch was based on that, I also wanted the packaging to reflect the simplicity with which we formulated the products and for our customers to use it as a skincare system, so numbers were integrated [in each product] so that in an easy and visual way you can establish in which order the products have to be used.
Do you have a favorite product of your brand?
Well they are all my favorites but the Barró is the first product that gave us popularity in the market, it is also a product with a lot of versatility, which can be used to curl hair, to give it volume, fixation, apart from being a unisex product.
Why is it important that production is sustainable and made in Los Angeles?
It is too important, in fact the line is designed on those values. It is very important today that we ensure that our practices are of low impact on the planet. The state of California has strict rules such as not testing products on animals or using ingredients that can cause cancer. We also use ingredients that are native to the region, such as sage, chamomile, and rosemary to minimize the impact of transportation. By manufacturing our products in Los Angeles, we keep the economy active and ensure that the people who work developing the product have the right benefits and their workplaces are fit and comfortable.
Do you think that Latin is in particular fashion in the beauty sector?
I think that finally the beauty and Latin culture are being celebrated in this country, its native roots and its ancient traditions are influencing the beauty industry in a very positive way and that is something that makes me feel very proud since Latinos are a culture full of qualities and passions, but above all with a great appreciation for the beauty of women in a diverse and non-stereotypical way.
How do you think being Latino and growing in Mexico as a beauty professional and as an entrepreneur have influenced you?
My appreciation for beauty and admiration for women was instilled in me by my Mom and as an entrepreneur, I think that Latinos are hard workers. My Dad instilled in us always being on time, not letting anything come between your dreams and doing things with a smile on your face.
