Since Netflix released the now famous movie Roma, the life of its protagonist Yalitza Aparicio has changed dramatically and for good. The young woman from an indigenous community in Oaxaca, Mexico, has not only received the recognition and admiration of the thousands of people who have enjoyed her performance in said film, but also from the industry. Fame came overnight and with it dozens of invitations to events, film festivals and awards. It is in those events where the actress has garnered glances thanks to the fabulous outfits she has worn. Of course, like all famous, Aparicio is also getting controversies. One of them? The criticism you are receiving because of a photo.
The 26-year-old girl published on her Twitter page the image of an advertising campaign in which she is participating. In it, the young woman appears with a braid on her long hair and supernatural makeup in earth tones. But what is causing the criticism is the Photoshop that they apparently did to the image.
Comparing the campaign photo with others of the young woman, whether on a carpet or even on the cover of Vogue, she looks completely different. Her whiter skin, the contour of her face more outlined and her nose noticeably thinner.
"Happy to be part of this campaign," Aparicio wrote in the caption of the image he published on the networks.
The comments were immediate, many congratulating her on her achievements and many others criticizing the photo. "Congratulations on all of your accomplishments, but don't let the marks get Photoshop into your photos, your skin color is naturally pretty," wrote one of her fans.
Many of the almost 2,000 comments that the photo has on Instagram are regarding the obvious arrangements they made. "Why whiten it or increase skin tones if it is also part of the ethnicity or culture?" Wrote another user.
The truth is that in the image, the young Mexican does show a lighter skin tone, just as her nose and the contour of her face look slimmer. What do you think?
