After appearing in newspapers around the world and facing a wave of criticism for burning their surplus clothing and accessories valued in a few years that are dedicated to selling second-hand luxury clothing online, such as Threadup, Vestiaire Collective or The RealReal, seeing that there is a lot of demand.
How to do it? One of the initiatives they have launched includes converting leftover leather that is not used when making a bag or a belt into other products through a collaboration they have made with the sustainable fashion brand Elvis & Kresse.
This brand has specialized for thirteen years in making leather bags, bags and accessories using exclusively recycled material from other garments.
Along the same lines, Banana Republic, which belongs to The Gap group, now offers second-hand pieces such as handbags and the occasional Hermès jewel, Chanel brooches or Louis Vuitton handbags through the “The Luxe” section.
And as we showed you in an interview with Mexican designer Carmen Gama, the Eileen Fisher brand has an entire line dedicated to fashion made from other recycled clothing, Renew.
"[When I was studying] at Parson´s I realized what the industry really is, the damage it generates in the environment and the people who produce it and I realized that I did not want to bring more clothes to the world because we don't really need any more clothes. […] From my teachers I learned to design with a purpose because the world no longer needs more beautiful dresses”, explains the designer in charge of Renew.
