You are going to want to know more about these two Latina entrepreneurs who make "magic potions" from their Miami workshop. Do not miss it.
Mayan medicine, the cosmos and love of nature are the driving forces behind Baiser, a 100 percent organic and wandering line of cosmetics created by Érika Argüello and María Copello, two Latina entrepreneurs based in Miami.
How did the idea of creating a beauty product brand come about?
We have always been struck by beauty and we are passionate about nature and everything that has to do with preserving our cultures. We decided one day to combine our love of design and take advantage of Erika's Mayan medicine book to create a project that was away from harmful chemicals, animal experimentation, and fostering ridiculous beauty stereotypes. We wanted it to touch the soul, transform the vision of beauty and promote self-esteem and respect for all living things on the planet.
What was the first product you created?
It was the cucumber Spritz, a cucumber and citronella spray that disinfects, tones, refreshes and purifies facial skin.
And what is your best seller?
Revitalizing Face Oil, a lavender-based face oil and a blend of macadamia, prairie grass and myrtle oils, which are relaxing, wonderful for the skin and also have anti-wrinkle properties.
How do you think your Latino heritage has influenced the spirit of this brand?
We preserve the spiritual and metaphysical values that [our ancestors] had regarding beauty through our products. Érika grew up with her grandparents in Chetumal, a city in southern Mexico in the Mayan zone and both had deep knowledge of how to cure with plants; and I grew up in Panama, in David, a small city in the middle of the jungle. We are fortunate to have as a guide a shaman who taught us how to formulate for two years, taught us how important it was to donate and we structured a business of which we are very happy.
What goals do you have yet to achieve?
Continue to expand this philosophy of natural beauty and help many more foundations that need it, promote self-esteem in women and continue creating products that can improve the quality of life of our clients. Everything we can do in conscience as a company is our dream.
