It could be said that Nicole Kidman is experiencing a tremendous return, although in reality she has not gone anywhere.
In fact, the actress has had a career on the rise since launching her modeling career in the 1980s by posing for some glamorous photos for Dolly magazine. Right now, her career is taking more flight thanks to the captivating and disturbing role of battered woman she plays in the Big Little Lies miniseries and her new film, which won the best director award at the Cannes film festival for the movie The Beguiled, not to mention that she is considered as royalty on the red carpet as she once again made clear at the event on the French Riviera by parading in the most wonderful dresses. It makes sense then that with that illustrious career she would also have the honor of being on the cover of the July issue of InStyle magazine.
Kidman is featured on the cover, minimalist style and photographed by Will Davidson, in a large black turtleneck sweater from Maison Martin Margiela. In it Kidman poses like a professional … without pants and her neck raised to partially cover her face. In the interview, the actress confesses that although her life as a Hollywood A-list star seems super fantastic and luxurious, she really is not all that she seems to be. "As glamorous as it may seem, acting is a job for me," says Kidman. "I'm not a celebrity who goes out just for the sake of it. It is not my nature.”
But just because she doesn't identify with all the glamor that comes with her lifestyle, that doesn't mean she doesn't like [wearing] all those clamorous dresses on the red carpet.
Explaining his fascination with fashion, Kidman says, “There are dreams that are related to fashion. When it is presented in a way that makes you sigh, it makes you feel good. It allows me to express what I am feeling, that is, I want to put that on because that is really my rebellion of the moment. Or my way of fitting in. Or is it my way of saying no. Or is it my way of saying that I am different”. Seeing him elegant and shocking choices on the Cannes red carpet for the past 25 years, there is no doubt that if there is one thing Kidman's dresses accomplish, it is drawing sighs.
