It is not a secret that there is great controversy among some designers as to whether it is correct to dress Melania Trump or not. There have already been several who have preferred to detach themselves from the new first lady, expressing their feelings publicly and clarifying that it is not in the interest of Trump to use her designs.

The first to publicly express her sentiment was French designer Sophie Theallet, who posted a letter on her Twitter page refusing to lend her designs to Melania.

“As an independent brand, we consider our voice an expression of artistic and philosophical ideas. The Sophie Theallet brand is against discrimination and prejudice,”he wrote.

Like her, the American designer Tom Ford expressed not being interested in Donald Trump's wife wearing his clothes.

"A few years ago I was asked to wear it and I refused," said Ford, who once dressed Michelle Obama, in an interview with The View (ABC) show. "She doesn't necessarily represent my image."

They were also joined by Marc Jacobs, "I have no interest in dressing Melania Trump," he said; and Phillip Lim, who said he did not see himself having any type of relationship with the administration of the future government.

However, luckily for the first lady, other designers like Diane von Furstenberg and Tommy Hilfiger are more than willing to lend their designs to the next tenant of the White House.

"Melania deserves the respect that has been given to the former first ladies," said Furstenberg. For her part, Hilfiger said, "I think Melania is a beautiful woman and I think any designer should be proud to dress her."

Now all that remains is to wait for Trump and his wife to arrive at the White House in January to know which designers will bet on dressing the ex-model.
