Marc Jacobs revealed through his instagram account the first image of his spring 2016 campaign with transgender film director Lana Wachowski as the protagonist.

The designer shared with his followers that his new campaign is going to be like a personal diary that will bring together snapshots of people who inspire him and who have opened his mind to new ways of thinking.

"The spectrum of individuals photographed in the ads represents a celebration of my America," says the creative about images captured by photographer David Sims in collaboration with stylist Katie Grand.

Jacobs met Wachowski, famous for directing the The Matrix trilogy or Jupiter Ascending, among other films, in December 2012 via YouTube. The speech that she gave to accept the Visibility award from the Human Rights campaign in October of that year deeply impacted the designer.

"She expressed thoughts and ideas that have always filled my heart, but have never been captured so eloquently in such tangible, intelligent language," writes the designer.

It's not the first time Jacobs has turned to celebrities he admires to star in his ads. Winona Ryder is the face of the latest campaign for her beauty line, and last fall numerous celebrities, from Cher to Sofia Coppola, posed for him.

The appearance of Wachowski, however, stands out from the rest because it represents a step forward in the visibility of transgender people, who are present in fashion shows and editorial reports, but not so much in advertising campaigns.
