Getting out of an abusive relationship is one of the most difficult tests any woman can face, especially if it is a young mother. And precisely because of that trauma, Dianna de la Garza, Demi Lovato's mother, had to go through, who in her new memoir recounts the ordeal she lived with her first husband and even caused her to run out of a finger.

In an exclusive granted to People, the 55-year-old woman spoke about her book Falling with Wings: A Mother's Story, where she recounts the abuse she suffered at the hands of her Patrick Lovato. The man is the father of his daughters Demetria " Demi " Ivonne, 25, and Dallas Lovato, 29.

De la Garza explains that she married the subject in 1984 and that her marriage quickly became explosive. Substance abuse by her ex began to spiral out of control and she was out of a job.
