For the first time, singer Jessica Simpson shared the darkest part of her past with the world, revealing that being sexually abused at age 6 led her down a path filled with trauma and addiction.

In his autobiography, Open Book, Simpson explains that he did not know how to handle his past trauma and the pressure of his sudden fame in his beginnings as an artist, so he took refuge in alcohol and pills, causing serious dependence and risking his life.

The abuse began when she shared a bed with the daughter of friends in her family, she told People magazine. "It started with tickling my back and then went on to things that were extremely uncomfortable," she said.

Six years after what happened - and despite being afraid to talk about it - Simpson opened up with her parents Tina and Joe Simpson, who never returned to spend the night at their friends' house or let her stay there. Her parents, she adds, did not speak of what happened again.

Already as a young adult, the singer tasted the first honeys of success thanks to her music and the popularity of the reality show Newlyweds that she starred with who was her first husband, Nick Lachey.

It was not until the end of 2017 that, in the middle of a party at her house, she hit rock bottom and in front of her friends and family became aware of how her alcohol abuse was ruining her life. She added that she sought medical help and has not had a drop of liquor since that day.

"When I finally said I needed help, it was as if I was that girl who found her calling again in life," Simpson wrote in her book that she hopes will help others who are going through something similar. "I found direction and that was walking forward without fear."

His memoirs are expected to be available to the public starting Friday, January 24. Simpson is currently married to Eric Johnson, with whom she has three children: her 7-year-old daughter Maxwell; her son Ace, 6; and Birdie, 10 months old.
