Jimmy Kimmel, who has got us used to his cute jokes, put the jokes aside on Monday to make a dramatic personal confession about the open-heart surgery on his newborn son.
The comedian revealed the difficult time his family went through in the opening monologue of his show, Jimmy Kummel Live! (ABC), during which he could not contain his tears.
"We called him Billy, six pushes and he came out," Kimmel, 49, said of the boy born April 21 in Los Angeles, his second child with his wife Molly McKearny.
He said that after birth, the boy was taken to the recovery room and to meet his older sister, Jane.
"My wife was relaxing in bed when a very attentive nurse from Cedars-Sinai [hospital] heard a murmur in her heart and noticed that she was a little purple, which is not common," explained the host about the dramatic moment.
"[The nurses] determined that he is not getting enough oxygen in his blood, or in his heart and lungs … it was a terrifying thing, you know? My wife was in the room recovering and she had no idea what was happening, "he added.
