Despite the fact that doctors recommended aborting her baby after she was diagnosed with a tumor in the spine, Margareth Hawkins Boemer chose to save her daughter Lynlee.

At 16 weeks pregnant, doctors informed Hawkins that her daughter had a sacrococcygeal teratoma tumor, a tumor that in the fetal stage deprives the developing fetus of blood and could lead to heart failure.

"It was quite shocking and terrifying," the woman told CNN. “[But] it was an easy decision for us. We wanted to save his life."

So it was. The little girl was operated on at the Texas Children's Hospital. Dr. Darrell Cass, who performed the surgery alongside Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye, explained that the tumor and the baby were almost the same size.

After the tumor was removed, the doctors put the baby back into her mother's womb. "It is a miracle to have opened the uterus like that and sealed it," Cass told CNN.

After 12 weeks of complete rest, Margareth welcomed Lynlee Hope, who was born for the second time on June 6 through a cesarean section.
