Singer Kelly Clarkson never imagined that her life would change so much in a year. By becoming the wife of her manager Brandon Blackstock, the young performer also became a mother of three. Clarkson couldn't be happier with her new role, especially after giving birth to her little River Rose last year.

"My whole life took a turn of 180 (degrees)," confesses the singer in the new edition of People magazine, which goes on sale this Friday. "I never imagined I would be a mother, so it has changed my life in the most wonderful way."

Now she spends her days with her husband's children Savannah, 13, and Seth, 8, and little River Rose, 8 months, amid a chaotic mix of diapers, homework, and evening appointments with Blackstock. Although she manages to perfectly balance her family duties with those of a pop star, her perspective has changed.

“I love what I do, but I feel like I focused too much on my career for my own self-esteem. Today I am more than that,”says the 32-year-old singer in the interview. "I am a mother and a wife and I have so many other things that are happening."

Since giving birth to little River - whom Clarkson calls "the happiest baby on the planet" - the singer has unexpectedly felt more comfortable.

"I have a certain level of peace that I didn't know would come [with motherhood]," she says.

Within his new life, which has helped heal some of the wounds caused by his parents' divorce, Clarkson has found a new purpose.

"My best friend always says, 'You just want to create the family you never had.' And maybe I'm doing that, "admits the singer. "In defense of my family, that happens. People run out of love and separate. They are human. I have accomplished so much, but perhaps the greatest success I want is that when I die, people will say, 'She was as successful as mom, as wife.' That is my great goal."

The full interview is in the new edition of People for sale this Friday.
