The Duchess of Cambridge and her husband Prince William released a new family portrait with their son Prince George a week before their official visit to New Zealand and Australia.
Similar to the family photo taken by Michael Middleton, Kate Middleton's dad, George looks very relaxed alongside the Lupo family pet, a black cocker spaniel.
The author of the image is photographer Jason Bell, who was also in charge of taking photos at George's christening in October.
William and Kate wanted to publish their new family portrait a week before their trip to New Zealand. There is a precedent: The couple also released a portrait before their trip to the United States in 2011.
This image also follows the tradition established by William's parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who in 1983 posed with William before traveling to Australia.
The next trip to Australia and New Zealand, a source told PEOPLE, gave them the "perfect opportunity to do the portrait" given "the great interest" there is in the royal family before they embark on their first tour with the prince. George.
