After a brief stop in Sydney, Prince William, Kate and Prince George arrived in New Zealand to kick off their three-week tour of Oceania.

The royal family landed in Wellington shortly after 8 p.m. (New York time) on Sunday.

Prime Minister John Key was tasked with welcoming them royally.

The actual trip includes stops in 13 cities and 45 communities. This tour partly reflects the first tour that William made with his parents, Carlos and Princess Diana 31 years ago, when he was practically the same age as George.

And although William has traveled to Australia and New Zealand on previous occasions, the prince has repeatedly expressed his excitement at being able to introduce Kate to the people and landscapes that have captivated him on his previous visits.

The royal family will be staying from Wednesday at the Government House.
