Update (9/13/16 3:54 PM): You may still be talking about the iPhone 7 that was announced last week, but Apple's iOS 10 is here. It's a game changer, folks. Now available for free on existing devices, the update can be downloaded simply from the settings page. As announced in June, it comes with several improvements including a new iMessage interface and performance upgrades like better battery life. As if you needed any convincing, find the best new features of the iOS 10 below.
Apple unveiled iOS 10 during the company's WWDC keynote this week. This latest version of the operating system will be available in the fall. Here are the best new features coming to your iPhone and iPad that are perfect for the lazy or the not-so-savvy tech users.
Write out messages: Sometimes you want to add a personal element to your message and now you can send a message in your own handwriting.
Invisible ink: There's more privacy in messaging- you can send text or photo that remains hidden until the receiver swipes to reveal it.
Emojis at a tap: The perfect update for our parents who are not the greatest with emojis. You will be able to type out a message and tap the emoji button on the keyboard to see which words can be swapped with emojis.
Siri works with apps: Your personal voice assistant will work with your favorite apps on voice demand. For example, if you want to request a car from Lyft, you can just tell Siri to do it for you.
Using Maps to book: Maps has been opened to third-party developers and now you can book a reservation on OpenTable or get an Uber without leaving the app.
Apple Music's new design: The music-streaming app is easier to navigate with simple and bigger text. You can enjoy your favorite songs or sing along with the option to view lyrics while you're listening to them.
Raise to wake: The lazy person's dream come true. Just by picking up your iPhone, you can wake up your screen without pressing the home button. TADA!
Richer locked screen: Always a person on the go? Using your phone just got easier as you can view photos and respond to a message in your notifications.
Contextual predictions: As if typing couldn't get easier, your phone will now make predications off of what you're typing. For example if you say someone's name, his or her contact information will pop up in your keyboard or if you say “I'm available at,” your calendar shows as an option.
Two languages at once: My Spanish-speaking friends, now you can type or message in two languages without the need to switch keyboards. Thanks Apple!
