Telenovela Features Gay Male Couple As Main Characters

The story of a young gay couple in the soap opera Mi Husband Has More Family, which aired on Univision, was so popular among viewers that the actors will be the protagonists of a new series now being filmed in Mexico. Mi Marido will have a spinoff series titled Aristemo, the series that centers on the love of teen boys Aristotle (played by Emilio Osorio) and Temo (played by Joaquín Bondoni). The fictional gay couple - dubbed “Aristemo” by fans - has been showered with love and support on social media. Members of the Latinx LGBT community have expressed how seeing this story airing on primetime television has made them feel proud and more accepted.

Ironically, the love story was almost banned by the telenovela's own producer Juan Osorio, who is the father of Emilio Osorio, one of the actors who plays the gay characters. Juan admitted it was hard for him at first to accept his son playing a homosexual character. The producer said he was afraid Emilio would be a victim of cyber-bullying or that his acting career may be impacted negatively. However, Juan knew that telling this story was important to break down stigmas associated with homosexuality within the conservative Latinx community, so he ultimately gave his son his blessing. The kiss the teen boys shared on the last episode of My Husband Has More Family broke the internet with comments.

Now the pilot for Aristemo, la serie, is being filmed in Mexico with the same-sex love story as the main focus. The new story will follow these two beloved characters featured in My Husband Has More Family as they face society's discrimination and defend their relationship.
