If you're having a hard time getting your diet and workout routine together for bikini season, just know that Sofia Vergara understands. The award-winning actress confesses she's not a workout junkie. "I'm the first to admit that I hate wasting time in the gym-I'm not one of those people who spends hours on the treadmill or takes three spin classes a day," said Vergara. So how does the actress maintain her hot bod? Sofia shares with us her personal tricks to get motivated to workout.

Sip coffee on the way to the gym

“Who doesn't love starting the day with a delicious Colombian roast? Sure, it's tasty, but it has so many benefits, too! It'll wake you up and get you energized for your workout, and it's been proven that drinking coffee (caffeinated, of course) helps your body burn more fat during exercise. Every little bit helps, right?”

Get a workout buddy

“When you're feeling less than motivated to get to the gym, enlisting a friend to come along just might be the inspiration you need. A workout buddy will hold you accountable (no more sleeping through those early morning Pilates classes!), And it's always more fun to try new things when you have someone who can laugh through the experience with you. Getting sweaty with your significant does the trick, too-it's a really great way to spend time together, and you might even impress them with your squat skills. By the end of your workout, you'll have had some bonding time and gotten a great sweat session in.”

Don't be scared to lift weights

Speaking of squats-ladies, don't be afraid to lift weights. It won't make you bulky, so get that out of your head! Actually, using heavier weights will accentuate all your curves. Toning the shoulders makes your waist look smaller, weighted squats lift and tone your booty, and adding a kettlebell to your ab routine will give you a stronger, flatter midsection-fast! Plus, when you lift a little heavier, you don't have to do as many reps to see results. That means you don't need to spend as much time in the gym… and that makes me very happy!”

Ditch the treadmill for something you love

Treadmills and ellipticals get boring, fast. And if you're dreading your cardio time, suddenly 20-minutes feels like two hours-no thanks. I love finding creative new ways to get my heart rate up that don't involve running or spinning. Dance cardio classes are my current obsession, because there's nothing better than turning up the music and just letting everything go. But really, making cardio easier to knock out is more about finding something you really love. Whether it's surfing, biking, or jumping on trampolines, do something you enjoy. When you have fun during workouts, it's a lot easier to commit to doing them-and they don't feel like work.”

Treat yourself afterward

“My favorite part of my workout is when it's finally over! It's tempting to go eat something that's a little unhealthy as a reward, but instead of undoing all my hard work, I treat myself to a satisfying, healthy snack. My go-to post-workout smoothie has chocolate protein powder, almond butter, coconut water, and goji berries on top-it tastes like chocolate ice cream, but has none of the guilt!”
