The gay culture of Latinos tends to spice up every celebration, and Novenas are no exception.

Although in several of our countries posadas, angels, Christmas bonuses, parrandas, bagpipes, or Easter are celebrated, many of these traditions have added an extra factor, dancing, which cannot be missing in any celebration of Hispanic origin. One that has become quite popular is the Ninth.

The tradition:

The traditional Novena that is celebrated in Colombia and Ecuador, mostly;

a traditional way of Catholic prayer. Those who pray a novena recite a specific prayer or series of prayers with a specific request or intention in mind. This practice continues for nine days.

Party:

The ninth has taken a rather festive course. Several families gather for the ritual, share dishes and family members of all ages are invited to participate, pray the novena and sing Christmas carols.

Music:

While Christmas carols are traditional music, the added value is tambourines, maracas, and jingle bells that are created with aluminum lids bound in a wire. Many relatives bring professional instruments, but it is not necessary.

Food:

Custard, buñuelos, empanadas, tamales and typical sandwiches from each country are the perfect detail for every meeting. Remember: never arrive empty-handed.
