Bronx Man Accused Of Raping Girl In Daycare

Alberto Hernández, 60, a Bronx County resident in New York, was arrested Wednesday night on serious charges of repeatedly raping a girl under the age of 10 for approximately 4 years. Incredibly, the events occurred in the María Cortez nursery, owned by the accused who has been running it for twenty-five years with his wife.

In a video captured by the local station PIX11, the handcuffed suspect is seen leaving his home, escorted by two female detectives. The arrest came thanks to the minor, who is currently 13 years old, told what happened on Monday to the staff of the school where she is currently studying. The girl explained that Hernández had raped her since she was 6 years old and until she turned 10, according to a New York police spokesperson.

The arrested man faces 13 charges, including rape, predatory sexual assault against a minor, sexual abuse, and forcible sexual contact with an 11-year-old minor.

The daycare center operated in the apartment Hernandez occupied with his wife, which is located on Heath Avenue and West 229th Street in the Kingsbridge Heights neighborhood. According to police sources cited by the New York Daily News, the subject used to abuse the minor when the rest of the children left the apartment. According to the same source, the suspect's wife operated with the corresponding licenses and had under her care a group of approximately 8 children per shift.

Police are trying to determine if there are more victims and asked potential victims to contact the authorities.
