Images showing a mother fighting a handful of men who kidnapped her 16-year-old daughter have caused a stir - and launched a police investigation into the young woman's whereabouts. The incident took place on Monday, at about 11:20 pm, on a street in the Bronx, New York.

The video captured by a surveillance camera in the area shows the moment when the young Karol Sánchez was walking with her mother and four men got out of a beige vehicle and forced the girl to get into the vehicle. Their mother tries to fight them, without success.

According to the New York Police Department, they were both walking on Eagle Avenue and 156th Street when the incident occurred. Authorities issued an Ambar alert early Tuesday morning to alert area residents and ask for help in the investigation.

Sánchez has short, black curly hair and is 5 feet 6 inches. At the time she was kidnapped, she was wearing a dark blue jacket, a white sweater, blue blue jeans and black tennis shoes.
