A 26-year-old mother in Minnesota was found guilty of the murder of her two-month-old baby. Shy Ann Hentges was convicted of second-degree murder Tuesday for the death of her son Eli Arispe Hentges, according to Isanti County Jail records.

The baby died on April 5, 2017. Police revealed that he responded to a 911 call about a minor who was unconscious. The Isanti Chicago Country Star newspaper reports that the coroner determined that the baby had fractured ribs and skull.

The mother initially told investigators that Eli had accidentally banged his head on a door when she was carrying him from the bathroom to another room. Then she changed her version of events, confessing that perhaps she had thrown the boy too hard in her crib, adds the report by Isanti Chicago Country Star.

During the investigation of the case, which lasted more than nine months, authorities discovered text messages sent by the young mother, who was raising the baby alone, complaining about how little the child slept and confessing that she was doubting if she should “stay with the child,”reported the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The mother remains behind bars on $ 250,000 bail and will be sentenced in February.
