Teacher Tiffani Shadell Lankford, 32, was charged Friday with aggravated assault on a student. The substitute teacher was arrested after allegedly being caught on video assaulting a 15-year-old student at Lehman High School in Kyle, Texas. According to authorities, the video was published on the Internet by the mother of another student from the same school and allegedly shows Lankford punching the minor, throwing her on the floor and even stomping on her head. It is not known what the motive for the attack could have been.

After the beating, the young woman was taken to the hospital and is already at home, her family's lawyer told KVUE-TV. According to the family, the student has special needs and suffers from seizures.

The New York Times reports that the assault happened last Friday at 3:45 pm in a Spanish class. Tim Savoy, a spokesman for the school district, told NBC News: “There is absolutely no excuse or circumstance that can justify what is seen happening in the video. It is unreasonable what this adult did to one of our students.”

The school principal, Karen Zuniga, posted an open letter on Facebook after the incident, assuring that they would do everything to "protect our students." Lankford was fired from the school district and the case is still under investigation. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement: "This type of behavior will not be tolerated in Texas classrooms."
