Crystal Smith, a young kindergarten teacher in Kansas, was fired from her job after being discovered by security cameras dragging and kicking a student in an elementary school library.

The events occurred on the premises of Bluejacket-Flint Elementary School, which is part of the Shawnee School District, a suburb located southwest of Kansas City.

In the 1.22-minute clip, the woman is seen calling the children to form and leave the library. The victim in question refuses and hides inside one of the bookshelves. Then Smith is seen approaching the girl and dragging her out of the bookcase, leaving her on the floor.

Then the woman walks away and later returns to where the girl is and looking at where another of the teachers was, she takes the opportunity and kicks the minor.

The video was recorded on February 21 and was revealed thanks to the local television station KCTV, which also revealed the audio of the minor's mother speaking with school authorities to report what happened the day the events happened.

According to the Shawnee Mission Post, the district's governing board decided to end the woman's contract on March 25; Smith had been a teacher at Shawnee for less than a year.

"There is no doubt that we would do everything in our power to immediately dismiss the teacher and take care of the girl," said David Smith, spokesman for the aforementioned school district. After the mother reported what happened, authorities reviewed the video and called Smith to discuss the facts. Subsequently, the teacher was placed on leave and instructed to "have no contact with the students." The woman was fired when the investigation ended.

For his part, the lawyer Dan Zmijewski assured the Kansas City Star newspaper that after what happened, the girl "was terrified to return to school" and that according to the family, when the attack occurred, the little girl went to several people at school to tell them what had happened to her, but that no one heard her.

The nightmare forced the girl's mother to place her in a home education program coordinated by the Shawnee School District.

Steve Howe, Johnson County District Attorney, is reviewing the case and its possible criminal consequences, according to the aforementioned newspaper.
