Nominations for the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards were unveiled on Tuesday. Hundreds of Latino artists celebrated being considered by the Latin Recording Academy, however, a controversy between artists of the urban genre began to rise due to the lack of reggaeton and urban artists with nominations in the main categories of the show.

It all started when Daddy Yankee, who is nominated for Best Urban Fusion / Acting for his song "Calma" and J Balvin, who got a nomination for Best Urban Song, publicly spoke on social media with a forceful message.

"Without reggaeton there is no Latin Grammy" making clear their dissatisfaction with the Latin Grammy organizers for obviating the effort of the regaettoneros. "Despite being nominated, I disagree with the way they treated the genre and many of my colleagues." “Remember one very important thing: It was not your platform that created this movement. This goes beyond an award. This is culture, credibility, relevance and RESPECT”.

Among other artists who joined the movement of the veteran of urban music in Spanish, the Colombian singer Karol G.

Today I want to thank Daddy Yankee for expressing publicly, in a respectful way and with the most precise words, a sentiment that many of us share, and make it clear that my support for his words, regardless of being nominated or not, is without offending those who YES They are because it is their time, they worked it and they ARE DESERVERS”, wrote the interpreter of“Ocean”on their social networks. “But I feel in need to support this initiative, since it is the only way to call for the academy in the coming years to be more inclusive with a genre that works, strives, evolves and represents with great achievements our Latino community worldwide.

Another of the reactions was that of Maluma, who exploded against the Latin Recording Academy because he received no nomination for his latest record production titled 11:11.

"It is a fucking disappointment not to even have a Latin Grammys nomination," Maluma wrote in the stories on his Instagram account. “So much effort, the best album I have made in my LIFE, the groups I always dreamed of; Madonna singing in Spanish, hits like 'HP', '11 PM ', a sauce produced by the greatest, Sergio George”.

According to the singer, the successes he has achieved with this album are worthy of recognition of this nature. He does not understand why he was not considered to compete in any category.

The twentieth installment of the Latin Grammy Awards will air on November 14 at 8 pm ET on Univision.
