Without Reggaeton There Is No Latin Grammy

Nominations for the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards were unveiled on Tuesday. Hundreds of Latino artists celebrated being considered by the Latin Recording Academy, however, a controversy between artists of the urban genre began to rise due to the lack of reggaeton and urban artists with nominations in the main categories of the show.

It all started when Daddy Yankee, who is nominated for Best Urban Fusion / Acting for his song "Calma" and J Balvin, who got a nomination for Best Urban Song, publicly spoke on social media with a forceful message.

"Without reggaeton there is no Latin Grammy" making clear their dissatisfaction with the Latin Grammy organizers for obviating the effort of the regaettoneros. Another of the reactions was that of Maluma, who exploded against the Latin Recording Academy because he received no nomination for his latest record production titled 11:11.

"It is a fucking disappointment not to even have a Latin Grammys nomination," Maluma wrote in the stories on his Instagram account. “So much effort, the best album I have made in my LIFE, the groups I always dreamed of; Madonna singing in Spanish, hits like 'HP', '11 PM ', a sauce produced by the greatest, Sergio George”.

According to the singer, the successes he has achieved with this album are worthy of recognition of this nature. He does not understand why he was not considered to compete in any category.

The twentieth installment of the Latin Grammy Awards will air on November 14 at 8 pm ET on Univision.
