Police officer Amber Guyger mistakenly entered her neighbor's apartment, thinking it was hers, and when she saw an unknown man, she shot him, mistaking him for a robber. Prosecutors argued that the 31-year-old woman was distracted because she was on the phone and sending high-sex messages with another police officer, Martín Rivera, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Amber, who had finished working 13 hours at the Dallas Police Department, was still wearing her uniform when she arrived at the building where she lives. It was then that he mistakenly entered the apartment of his neighbor Botham Jean, 26. Seeing the black man, she thought she was an assailant and shot her twice, killing her before the misunderstanding could be cleared up.

Amber pleaded not guilty but faces murder charges. Her trial is about to take place and if found guilty the police officer could spend the rest of her life in prison. According to prosecutors, Jean - a young man with a lifetime ahead of him - died from the distraction of this police officer, who shot him before he could explain that she was the one who was trespassing into his home. -and not the other way around. The case is still ongoing.
