What should have been one of the happiest days of his life was stained with tragedy for the family of Steve Weber, a young American man who died from drowning last Thursday when he asked his girlfriend underwater in a resort in Tanzania.

Weber was enjoying a dream vacation with his girlfriend, Kenesha Antoine, in a room under the sea of the Manta Resort hotel complex, on the island of Pemba, when he wanted to pose the big question to his partner in an original way.

In the video of the hand request that the girlfriend shared on Facebook, Weber is free diving to the window of the room, where he places a paper with the request and shows a ring to the one who was going to be his wife.

"I can't hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you, but everything I love about you I love every day more," the message reads. Then it disappears from the images with the help of fins, presumably to ascend to the surface of the water.

It is not known what happened later, but Weber did not make it out of the water alive. “You never rose from those depths, so you couldn't hear my answer, Yes, yes! A million times yes, I marry you,”wrote Antoine on Facebook.

Those responsible for Manta Resort confirmed the death in a statement sent to People. "Our most sincere condolences," says the text signed by the head of the complex, Matthew Saus. “A client drowned while free diving outside the submerged room. The weather and water conditions were calm. The submerged room is located about 300 meters from the coast. The depth of the water in the area of the submerged room is 10 meters”.

Mandy Hoffman, sister of the deceased, told CNN that she was "a very generous and altruistic person."

“He had a contagious smile and the most beautiful eyes in the world. He loved everyone around him and saying that everyone loved him would be an understatement,”added Hoffman, who has set up a GoFundMe account to finance the repatriation of the body.
