What was going on as an unforgettable trip to New York City turned into a nightmare for young Connor Rasmussen.

A day after a memorable and romantic surprise in which 23-year-old Connor proposed to his girlfriend in Central Park surrounded by his loved ones, the newly engaged would have to live one of the most terrifying moments of his life.

While walking around 1:45 am last Sunday to the hotel where he was staying, a man attacked him from behind with deliberate and no reason, burying a knife in his neck.

"At the moment I didn't feel like I was being stabbed," Rasmussen shared in an interview with the Daily News. "I was very confused. I felt the handle of the knife and pulled it out [from my neck]. Then I saw the blood and applied pressure to the wound."

Surprisingly, Connor remained conscious after the attack and even picked up the weapon to hand over to the authorities who treated him, according to CNN. He was then transferred to a medical center to treat the wound.

For now it is unknown who and why he attacked the young man.

"It was terrifying to receive that call and try to understand what had happened," said Jordan Asher, the victim's fiancee. “It was being the best weekend of my life. I think God was watching over us."

Fortunately, the couple is already back at their home in Washington state, where Connor continues his recovery successfully.
